The Pennsylvania Attorney General says the Uber Company has violated a state law about leaking state information and ordered $ 13.5 million fine.
According to the Recode website, Pennsylvania attorney general Josh Shapiro sued Uber for not disclosing information within a reasonable period of time to the company’s cyber-attacks and data leaks involving 600,000 global drivers.
13,500 Pennsylvania drivers have been exposed for the leaked data including their driver’s license number, in the Uber attack in 2016.
As a rule, the penalty for failing to notify the affected customers in network about that attacks is $ 1,000 per person. Accordingly, Uber could be fined up to $ 13.5 million.
Although this may still be a “less than perfect” penalty for this company.
Uber’s new legal chief, Tony West, said he was surprised about the Pennsylvania case and that several weeks ago he had personally met with the state attorney general.
A spokesman for Uber said that although the company did not argue that they had not disclosed the information about the leak, the board of directors had resolved a responsible solution.
