Twitter has just released its latest transparency report where they mention that they suspended more than one million accounts related to terrorist expressions.

The report released Thursday, 5th April is divided into aspects related to transparency, threats to freedom of expression, public health and also terrorist activities. The social network mentioned that 93% of the accounts eliminated for spreading “terrorist” messages would have been identified by the tools of the social network.

They also mentioned that the closure is not so big as to be alarming, considering that the platform has 330 million users. In any case, the creation behind the platform to identify the accounts those are striking, since 74% were suspended before publishing their first tweet, that is, they would have been offensive in themselves. So they mentioned it:

We continue to see the positive and significant impact of years of hard work making our site an undesirable place for those who seek to promote terrorism, resulting in this type of activity that moves away more and more from Twitter.

At the same time, although 0.2% of the suspensions are the work of the governments that sent petitions, the interest of some countries in filtering what is discussed by the platform can not be ignored. British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron, for example, suggested last year to fine companies that do not quickly remove terrorist material from their services.

Do you think that Twitter has the right criteria to close accounts?
