It is often forgotten, but sometimes it is enough to eat the right food at the right time to be in good health. This list will help you to make your shopping list for a healthy and season-appropriate diet.

Garlic
USE: Garlic cloves, chopped or pressed, as a condiment. Or whole garlic cloves in oil, as an appetizer. Thoroughly improves the immune system in case of illness: considered to be more effective than antibiotics in combating stomach aches caused by bacteria, including pneumococcus (= pneumonia) and Staphylococcus aureus. Aphrodisiac, natural antioxidant, reduces blood pressure, treats intestinal disorders, stimulates the liver to eliminate toxins, a source of vitamins and minerals. Prevention against cancer of the colon, breast, prostate. Consume 1 to 2 raw and chopped pods per day for a preventive treatment. In case of illness, increase the dose to 4-6 pods.

Lingonberry
USE: Acidulous fruit to be eaten raw or cooked. Excellent in jam with “hunting” and cooked pears.

GET: Organic European avocados are on sale in supermarkets in late winter / early spring. From summer they come from too far away tropical countries.

Beetroot
USE: Although often used to feed animals, the beet root is nonetheless an excellent source of nutrients for humans. Consumed in salad or juice. Reduces blood pressure almost instantly. Prevention against prostate and breast cancer, low limitation of the development of cancer cells. 100 grams of beets contain enough dietary fiber for the daily intake, making it an excellent remedy for intestinal disorders. Cranberry

Hemp
USE: Plant of the same family as hops, one of the first cultures made by man (approx. 8,000 years) due to its extreme utility and efficiency. There are around 40,000 products derived from hemp: string, hemp wool, oil, textiles, bricks (hempcrete), and of course cannabis consumed for its psychoactive effects (THC), one of the reasons why the cultivation of this plant is prohibited in most countries. There are hemp-based medical treatments that are allowed, especially to treat the effects of multiple sclerosis, AIDS, or cancer.
GET: It is possible to find crushed hemp seeds on the internet: it is a food supplement rich in vitamins and fatty acids, without psychotropic effects, which can be added to yogurts, birchers, salads etc.

Olive oil
USE: To be used in Mediterranean cuisine, and in other kitchens once you are used to its particular taste. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fat (not dangerous), and little saturated fat (bad for the faculties of the brain). Consuming olive oil helps prevent health problems that can appear with other cooking oils.
CULTURE: Olive trees are Mediterranean trees, the olive oil found in France comes almost exclusively from the countries of this region.
GET: Extra virgin olive oil in supermarkets, or in markets from Italian or southern France resellers.

Kiwi
USAGE: Kiwis are vitamin C bombs. A kiwi contains 4 to 12 times more than an orange, 3 times more than an apple, and 60 times more than a grape. A cure of kiwi fruit can halve the duration of a cold or sore throat. The skin is edible: wash the fruits before eating them with the skin on to flatten the “hairs”. Warning: contains allergenic substances.

Honey
USAGE: Much better than sugar for your health: replace sugar with honey as much as possible. Honey is anti-bacterial, does not mold, and improves our immune system. Certain types of honey – especially fir honey – relieve sore throats.
CULTURE: Beehives – Inquire with local beekeepers.
GET: Buy local honey, if possible containing the name and address of the beekeeper. Some organic honeys are sold overpriced! To be avoided if these do not have a precise origin (eg “Europe”), their quality is very relative.

USE: To eat for dessert with other berries of the woods. Blueberry is an excellent antioxidant for the brain, and for combating cognitive decline in the elderly.
CULTURE: In the wild, in mountainous regions (1000-1500m), the ground is covered in summer.
GET: Blueberries are found on the market in summer, and through fall. Choose fruits of local production, and eat them quickly enough because they do not last fresh for long time.

USE: Oleaginous fruit rich in unsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3), rich in minerals, B vitamins and fiber. Antioxidant, prevention against cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers, good for the faculties of the brain (note its brain shape!) And against stress. WARNING: the consumption of nuts causes canker sores in many people, consume sage or lemon in parallel to alleviate them.

Apples are rich in vitamins C, minerals and antioxidants: replace coffee with an apple at break time! The apple also reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other diseases of the elderly.
CULTURE: Apples grow until late fall and can be stored for a long time, so they are the ultimate winter fruit! It is possible to find apple seedlings for gardens, although it is difficult to get apples when you are a beginner.
GET: Many species on offer in markets and supermarkets. To eat raw, test several and choose the ones you like; for cooking and baking, find out what type of apples are best for each recipe.

Quinoa
USE: The sacred cereal of the Incas. Contains proteins, minerals and other nutrients suitable for the vegetarian diet. Does not contain gluten! Helps to be full, and thus helps fight obesity. Quinoa is cooked much like rice, in 2 to 3 times its volume of water until the water has evaporated (10 to 15 minutes).
GET: This cereal is found more and more commonly in supermarkets, alongside rice, millet, couscous etc.

CULTURE: The vines grow at low altitude (below 800 m) on the sunny slopes.

Spirulina
USE: Spirulina is neither an animal, nor a plant, nor a fungus: it is a blue algae, one of the few which is edible. Recognized for thousands of years for its nutritional benefits, it is now consumed as a food supplement.
Spirulina contains the 8 amino acids necessary for our survival, it therefore restores the immune system in the event of malnutrition or under-nourishment, and is therefore anticancer and antiviral. Spirulina is also rich in Omega-6 fatty acids, chlorophyll (which stimulates the production of red blood cells), and just about all the trace elements, vitamins and minerals that can be mentioned in the diet.
Anti-oxidant, anti-cholesterol, good for the skin, easily assimilated by young children and the elderly, good for weight loss, stimulates satiety because it is composed of 55% to 70% of proteins. Daily use varies between 2 grams (for children) and 10 grams(for adults), it can be mixed with rice, cereals, pasta etc. If mixed with water, its bad seaweed taste predominates; if it is mixed with fruit juice, this seaweed taste disappears.
CULTURE: Already known among the Incas and in Chad since forgotten times, it is now cultivated in poor countries (for malnourished populations) and in countries suffering from radiation (the surroundings of Chernobyl etc.) Spirulina greenhouses are basins protected by a tarpaulin, and filled with water where the spirulina algae is naturally present, under conditions favorable to its development. It can also be grown in space to feed astronauts!
GET: Spirulina is sold agglomerated in filaments, or as capsules or capsules. It is found in food supplement retailers, just like maca, acai or hemp seeds. To be sure you’re buying the right quality, your best bet is to find a local producer in your area who can certify the product’s traceability.

Cider vinegar
USE: This apple-based vinegar is a natural hair lotion (drip!) As well as a remedy against tonsillitis. Its taste being slightly sweet, one can easily get used to drinking it with a spoon like syrup for coughs, in the morning and in the evening, during the illness. Also good against tension and osteoporosis. In the event of an ear infection, it can be used as an ear bath (but it is necessary to ensure by medical examination that the eardrum is not pierced, this would cause a risk of meningitis).
